Port of Fujairah biofuel bunkering for GCL Tapi and GCL Sabarmati
Biofuel delivery, facilitated by KPI OceanConnect, marks a historic event at the Port of Fujairah, underscoring the growing global accessibility of biofuel bunkers. KPI OceanConnect, a prominent global provider of marine energy solutions, recently supplied 200 metric tons of B24 VLSFO to the bulk carrier GCL Tapi on behalf of GCL at Fujairah. The bunkering operation occurred on December 8th at Fujairah anchorage.
This milestone in Fujairah was followed by a second biofuel delivery on December 13th for GCL, with 200 metric tons of B24 VLSFO supplied to the vessel GCL Sabarmati.
The global trend of biofuel bunkering is on the rise, evident by the bunkering of nearly one million tons of biofuel blend in 2023 in major hubs like Singapore and the Port of Rotterdam.
Jesper Sørensen, Head of Alternative Fuels and Carbon Markets at KPI OceanConnect, expressed satisfaction with this pioneering biofuel delivery in Fujairah. He highlighted the anticipated increase in demand for low-carbon energy solutions due to tightening regulations on greenhouse gas emissions and growing consumer demand for sustainable shipping.
Recognizing the diverse needs of businesses in adopting decarbonization strategies, GCL understands its responsibility to assist customers in developing long-term fuel strategies aligned with their decarbonization goals.
Biofuels emerge as a practical solution for the shipping industry to promptly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. To ensure a stable supply and meet sustainability goals, early adopters on both ends of the market must invest in supply development and signal demand. Collaborative efforts and knowledge-sharing across the industry will play a crucial role in supporting and expanding the availability of biofuels.
